Here's what we were working with - a backyard in Schenectady's Stockade Historic District that had an old, deteriorating fire pit structure and loose scattered bricks going nowhere. The space had potential, but it needed a real plan and a crew willing to put in the work to get it there.
We stripped everything out, cleared the area down to bare ground, and started fresh. That's the only way to do it right. A proper brick patio isn't just about laying bricks on top of whatever's already there - the prep work underneath is what determines whether it holds up for a decade or starts shifting after the first hard winter.
Two days later, the backyard had a full classic red brick patio running right off the deck steps. The pattern is clean, the layout is tight, and the whole thing fits the character of the historic neighborhood it sits in. That's the thing about red brick - it doesn't fight with older homes and traditional yards. It belongs there.
Hardscaping like this does more than look good. It gives you a usable outdoor space with a solid, low-maintenance surface that handles foot traffic and weather without complaint. No rotting wood, no weeds taking over, no constant upkeep. Just a functional patio that works as hard as you do.
We take this kind of work seriously regardless of the size of the job. A two-day hardscape project in a historic neighborhood still deserves the same attention to detail as anything else we do. If your backyard isn't working for you, this is exactly the kind of fix that makes a real difference.
